Wood Carving #iloveit

Is there anything more discouraging than thinking you don’t have “it” anymore? I think not. Art block and the civil unrest in my country was causing me mental anguish. So I took a break from art and the world.

I spent the whole summer focusing on the outdoors. I couldn’t of been happier than when I was mowing the lawn, pulling weeds, feeding the birds, and tending to my garden. When I was all caught up I found myself dreading going inside, so I would stay outside, swinging from a tree branch in my chair hammock.

I finally got the urge to create something, but I didn’t want to be stuck inside painting. I had a slab of Black Walnut that I had gotten in June, and a wood carving tool set my dad had given me years ago. I started carving a tree into the wood, and it was so hard!! Like literally, Black Walnut is hardwood. I wanted to keep carving but my body couldn’t handle it. I did some research and decided I would be a power carver. I ordered a Dremel and got started!

I am in love with power carving! I am still working on my first piece and I have so many ideas for ways to combine carving with painting 😊. I am excited about arting again and I am looking forward to what this means for my creative journey!

Thank you for your support and here are some progress pics of my very first carving!

Hi there!! Allow me to introduce myself, if you had not figured it out my name is Kimberly (Kim for short). I am a mixed media artist, although sometimes my media isn't mixed at all...hmm. I live to create art, I don't discriminate!! It is my dream to be able to sustain myself as a working artist, in the meantime I am happy to continue my day job as an RN. Thank You for checking out my artwork, it is my hope that you found something that made you smile :)
